Soil Chromatography and Chemilumens 2020-2021

S2 students learning Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics using our environment as the lens through which to gain new skills were instructed to document and collect soil and plant samples from places they visit every day. Looking at soil and the plants grown from those collections we created chromas, depicting the health of the earth and chemilumens made with chemistry from the plants, common ingredients and the plants themselves.

These works were made and inspired by a STEAM artist residency working with James Gillespie's  High from Sept 2020 through June of 2021. Another piece made with the students featuring upcycling and cyanotypes can be found here.

Supported by The Finnish Institute,  Edinburgh City Council, and OULU2026
